What Is an Operational Health Check?
It is a quick assessment, an abbreviated version of the Lean-Factory-Audit and Lean-Office-Audit questionnaire. It allows you to “test-drive” the system before embarking on a full diagnostics audit to assess all 20 Keys to World-Class Operations. For more details, see also the Lean Audit workbook.
How Does the Assessment Work?
For each question, select one of five available answers. Each option represents a specific level of maturity. Because answers are descriptive, rather than evaluative (measuring the strength of agreement on the Likert scale), it makes the audit process repeatable and scores reproducible.
Which Dimensions Are Assessed?
The audit covers all 20 Keys to World-Class Operations with one question per “Key”: Costing, Efficiency, Information, Layout, Leadership, Management, Metrics, Quality, Readiness, Renewal, Roles, Service, Solving, Standards, Structure, Teamwork, Technology, Timing, Training, Visuals.
How Long Does the Assessment Take?
The Operations-Health-Check takes 20 minutes, when answering one question per minute. If you are planning a baseline audit with your team, schedule 40 minutes to allow time for discussion and alignment. For a repeat audit, 10 minutes is sufficient to assess incremental changes since the previous audit.
Who Should Do the Assessment?
The Operations-Health-Check is designed for managers, specialists, supervisors, operators – anyone who wants to get a quick insight by benchmarking their operations against world-class references. The health check is suitable to assess teams in manufacturing, logistics, laboratory, service – including yours!
